Starting therapy with Rudi Doku
What to expect when you start
You begin with a free 45-minute call, and we decide together whether to book a first session. Sessions bring attention to sensation and breath while you talk, at a pace we set together.
Starting with a free call
Pick a time on the booking page and answer three short questions. We'll then spend 45 minutes talking about where you are, what's brought you here and whether this work suits you.
If it does, we'll choose a time for your first session.
What a session involves
Much of each session is spent with sensation and breath while you talk, since a lot of what keeps people stuck is held in the nervous system. I work with Somatic Experiencing® and Internal Family Systems, and each has its own page if you'd like the detail: Somatic Experiencing® and Internal Family Systems.
You don't have to retell your story in detail for this to help.
Setting the pace together
You are always in charge of your body in this work. We go at a pace that stretches you without overwhelming you.
Between sessions I often suggest a small practice to try at home, so the work carries on between our meetings.
After years of talk therapy
Plenty of people arrive having already done a lot of talking. Somatic work adds attention to what your body is doing while you talk, which reaches places that insight alone often can't.
I'm not a registered psychologist, and this work sits alongside medical or psychological care without replacing it.
Where sessions happen
In person, I see people in Thornbury at Melbourne Integrated Therapies, and in Elsternwick at Glo Health. Online sessions are also available.
