Somatic therapy in Elsternwick

Body-centred work for trauma, burnout, and a nervous system that won't settle. In person in Elsternwick, a few minutes from Glen Huntly Road.

You've probably already done the thinking. Maybe years of it. Talk therapy, books, podcasts, a decent understanding of your own patterns. And the pattern is still running.

That's not a failure of effort. It's that insight lives in the mind, and the pattern lives in the body. This is where somatic work goes.

What we work with

People come to my Elsternwick room with things like:

  • A body that's tense, on edge, or exhausted no matter how much rest you get
  • Anxiety that doesn't respond to logic
  • Old experiences that still set off big reactions
  • Burnout that's gone past "needing a holiday"
  • Knowing exactly what your pattern is, and watching yourself do it anyway

I'm a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and trained in Internal Family Systems. We work slowly and at your pace. There's no requirement to retell your story in detail. The work is with how your system is holding things now, and helping it complete what it never got the chance to.

Getting here

The consulting room is in Elsternwick, in Melbourne's inner south-east, inside Glo Health at 358-360 Glen Huntly Road. Elsternwick station on the Sandringham line is a short walk away, and the 67 tram runs along Glen Huntly Road. Street parking is usually easy to find.

If you're in Caulfield, Brighton, St Kilda East, Ripponlea, Gardenvale, Bentleigh or Ormond, this is likely my closest room to you, and for the Bayside suburbs like Hampton and Sandringham it's an easy run up the Nepean Highway or the Sandringham line. I also see clients in Thornbury and Toorak, and offer online sessions across Australia and internationally for anyone who can't make it in person.

"It's natural to be on the fence. You don't know how long this work will take, and you may fear what you might find in yourself. But the fact that you're curious already means there's something waiting for you to notice and explore."

Common questions

Where exactly is the room?
Inside Glo Health, 358-360 Glen Huntly Road, Elsternwick, near Glen Huntly Road. You'll get exact directions with your booking confirmation.
Do I need a referral or mental health plan?
No. You can book directly. Sessions aren't covered by Medicare, so there's nothing to organise first.
How is this different from counselling?
Counselling mostly works with the story and the thinking. Somatic work starts with the body. The two can sit well together, and plenty of my clients have done talk therapy first.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on what you're working with, and we'll talk about it honestly in the first call. This isn't open-ended therapy by default. Most of the change happens between sessions, in the practising.
Can we work online instead?
Yes. Online sessions work well for this and I see clients across Australia and overseas via Zoom.

About Rudi

Rudi Doku, Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, in his Elsternwick consulting room

I spent 15 years as a technology consultant, then another decade coaching leaders across five continents. What I do now grew out of what I had to learn the hard way: how to regulate my nervous system, face the parts of myself I'd been avoiding, and build a life that actually fits. More about me and how I got here.
